〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Mitsuru Kirijo
CHARACTER AGE: 17
CANON ORIGIN: Persona 3
CHRONOLOGY: Immediately after the player character's death in early March
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Randomized (though ideally with one of her canonmates).

BACKGROUND: Mitsuru is the only child of Takeharu Kirijo, the head of the Kirijo Group. In the world of Persona 3, Kirijo Group (sometimes referred to as KJ) is an incredibly omnipresent conglomerate that has its hand in virtually all aspects of modern life. As such, Mitsuru grew up in the lap of luxury and opulence, though it did not make her soft and spoiled. Far from it, in fact, because in addition to her family's wealth, she inherited their sins.

Years before the events of Persona 3, KJ group discovered the existence of the beings known as Shadows-- manifestations of the dark wishes and thoughts in a human psyche-- and began to experiment upon them, wondering if their power to manipulate time and space could be utilized and harnessed. Ten years before the game, the experiments in the laboratory on Tatsumi Port Island led to disaster: The lead scientists, in their studies of Shadows, had learned about a prophecy to bring about The Fall, the end of human existence at the hand of the entity from which all Shadows originate-- Nyx, the personification of death itself. One scientist, however, disagreed with their plot, and destroyed the facilities at the cost of his own life, creating a massive explosion that unleashed all the Shadows that KJ Group had amassed on the world.

This created the Dark Hour. The Dark Hour is a secret 25th hour of the day that occurs exactly at the stroke of midnight and lasts exactly one hour; if it begins at 12:00:00, the clock will tick to 12:00:01 as soon as it is over. During the Dark Hour, the world is transformed. The sky and moon are green, bathing everything in their color, and all water appears like blood. Normal humans cannot usually perceive the Dark Hour, turning themselves into objects resembling upright, solid coffins. This is a defense against the Shadows that roam the Dark Hour; a human who enters the spacetime anomaly without being turned into a coffin (which is relatively rare) will quickly be attacked and overcome by Shadows, destroying their mind and their will and leaving their body a mindless, barely-sentient husk.

There is one power that can stand against the Shadows, however: the power of Persona. Personas are outward manifestations of a human psyche and identity, a mask worn to protect the true self. Awoken in moments of desperation and resolve, Personas give people the power to not only truly perceive the Dark Hour, but to perceive and fight Shadows.

When Mitsuru was a young girl, her father was attacked by Shadows, and she awoke the power of her Persona to protect him. As she grew up and learned about the truth of the Tatsumi Port Island explosion, the Dark Hour and her family's relationship to them, Mitsuru began to feel a deep-seated need to make up for her family's past actions. Her father would later lament leaving her to clean up their family's mess.

An organization was formed called SEES, the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad. Ostensibly a school club for Gekkoukan High, the school built by KJ Group atop the ruins of the former laboratory, the true purpose of SEES was to find potential Persona-users to fight Shadows during the Dark Hour. KJ Group developed objects called Evokers, gun-like devices that enabled the user to summon their Persona at will. Thanks to her intelligence and charisma, Mitsuru became the leader of SEES, which initially consisted of only three people: Herself and her classmates, Akihiko Sanada and Shinjiro Aragaki. Shinjiro would later leave SEES after an accident in which a civilian was killed. Immediately prior to Persona 3, Mitsuru recruited an underclassman named Yukari Takeba.

During Persona 3, Mitsuru meets the unnamed protagonist of the game, who is revealed to have a similar power of Persona, albeit with a twist that they can summon multiple Personas instead of just the one. Mitsuru recruits them as their field commander, taking a supporting role even when she rejoins the battlefield herself, though she still acts as leader for most of the non-battle decisions. Over the course of the game, SEES grows its ranks and fights Shadow after Shadow, clashing with an alternate group of Persona users called Strega.

However, in November, it is revealed that SEES' club adviser, Shuji Ikutsuki, is a traitor who has been using them: By defeating Shadows, SEES returns them to their point of origin, eventually amassing enough to summon the thirteenth Shadow, Death-- the one who will herald the arrival of Nyx and The Fall. Ikutsuki shoots and kills Mitsuru's father, though Takeharu returns fire, fatally wounding him as well.

Devastated, Mitsuru takes a break from leading SEES, believing that there's no point in restoring her family honor if she's the only member of the family left. She's eventually brought back to reality thanks to the actions of Yukari Takeba, who points out that she can still fulfill Takeharu Kirijo's last wish, which was to destroy the Shadows to protect humanity and correct KJ Grouo's mistake.

SEES bands together to face Nyx and prevent The Fall, even though they are told that it is a futile, near-impossible goal. They are ultimately successful thanks to the protagonist sealing Nyx inside him/herself, which results in their death at the beginning of March. Mitsuru's story continues after this in Persona 3: The Answer and Persona 4 Arena, but she's not from then so it's not very relevant!

PERSONALITY: Mitsuru is mature, collected and driven. Thanks to her family history and upbringing, she has a very formal way of interacting with people, which can often make her come off as aloof or standoffish. In truth, Mitsuru is actually quite warm-hearted and caring, and acts as a guide and mentor for many of the younger members of SEES. Her actions are similar to those of a somewhat strict mother figure; she demands excellence from the underclassmen-- the protagonist cannot even start becoming friends with her until they've maxed out their Academics ranking-- but is kind and praises them when they do well.

Mitsuru puts tremendous significance on debts and responsibility, perhaps even to the point of it becoming a flaw. She's determined to make up for the Kirijo Group's involvement in the creation of the Dark Hour, a driving motivation that extends through her entire life, despite having only been seven years old and completely blameless at the time of the accident. In her Social Link with the protagonist, it's revealed that she has a fiance in an arranged marriage, whom she intends to marry despite not liking him because it's for Kirijo Group. It is only through her relationship with the protagonist that she decides to make her own decisions and that her arranged marriage would not be the best choice for her or KJ group, and so calls it off.

Her devotion to debts, her responsibility and her promises is most evident in Persona 3: The Answer. She considers the debt she owes Yukari Takeba for snapping her out of her depression so significant that she sides with Yukari, even though Yukari's plan-- to go back in time and save the protagonist from his/her death-- risks reawakening Nyx and bringing about The Fall again.

Mitsuru is highly intelligent and has a particular love for learning about other cultures and foreign languages. She's canonically at least bilingual (she peppers her speech with English in the Japanese version of the game, and French in the English version of the game) and for the purposes of MoM will be considered trilingual, speaking all three of the aforementioned languages fluently.

While she is no stranger to using her family's power, wealth and connections to skirt rules, she always does so with peoples' best interests in mind, trying to protect people rather than advance her own personal agenda.

Other than her deep friendships with Yukari Takeba and the protagonist of the game, she's closest to her fellow upperclassman Akihiko Sanada, being one of the few people she refers to by their first name. Akihiko balances her cerebral, aloof personality with his hands-on, physical style.

Despite the value she puts on education, it is shown that she's actually fairly ignorant of 'commoner' behaviors, as prior to becoming friends with the protagonist, she had never been to a fast-food burger joint.

POWER:

1) Artemisia: Mitsuru will be able to summon her enhanced Persona, Artemisia, by using her Evoker-- even in the real world, not the Dark Hour. In addition to a bevy of physical attacks, Artemisia possesses defensive healing magic and powerful offensive ice magic; while she has decent physical damage stats, Mitsuru is far more effective with her magic. Artemisia's magic also lets her charm people, potentially clouding their minds and convincing them to fight for Mitsuru's side.

2) The Dark Hour: Mitsuru will be bringing the Dark Hour with her to the world of MoM. The Dark Hour, as explained above, is an extra 25th hour of the day hidden between midnight and 12:00:01. Most technology, other than that which has explicitly been designed to work in the Dark Hour, will not function during the Dark Hour. Most people do not experience the Dark Hour, being sequestered inside their protective coffins; however, certain people can be drawn into it.

For the purposes of her time in MoM, the Dark Hour will not draw random people into it (though this may be a player plot later on). Anyone near Mitsuru at the stroke of midnight will be drawn into the Dark Hour, however, whether they are a Persona-user or not. Mitsuru's Dark Hour will be filled with Shadows created by the people walking around the world in the daytime, though there will be no counterpart to Tartarus, the giant tower that was effectively their "home" back on Tatsumi Port Island. Mitsuru, if she tries, will realize that she can actually control and command the Shadows to a point, and can make them potentially attack anyone in Tartarus. However, this will require a much more malicious mindset than Mitsuru possesses.

3.) Personal items: Mitsuru will arrive with her rapier, her motorcycle (developed to be functional inside the Dark Hour), and several KJ Group communicators (likewise).

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE: Bonsoir, everyone.

I'm sure you get countless numbers of these posts from newly arrived imPorts, confused as to their whereabouts, and I'm sorry to add to that number. [She says with a somewhat sheepish tinge to her voice, before it becomes once more professional and calm.] My name is Mitsuru Kirijo, of Kirijo Group-- not that I expect the name will mean much in this place-- and I'm looking for people I may know.

If anyone knows any young people who have mentioned, back in our prior worlds, attending a school called Gekkoukan High or living in Iwatodai City, let me know at once, s'il vous plaît. It's really quite important that I contact them as soon as possible.

If you don't, and it's entirely probable that you do not, I apologize for taking your time.

Thank you.
